These paragraph-length reading passages are just the right size for struggling readers. Comprehension questions develop eleven skill areas.

There are 200 cards with reading passages on the front. Three comprehension questions on the back of each card are coded by skill area, allowing you to informally assess your client's comprehension skills and identify those areas that need more instruction.

The reading comprehension skill areas are:

• Cause and Effect
• Comparing and Contrasting
• Details
• Fact vs. Opinion
• Inferences
• Main Idea
• Paraphrasing
• Predicting
• Problem Solving
• Sequencing
• Vocabulary

The passages are divided into six readability levels (33 or 34 cards in each level):

• 4.0 to 4.4
• 4.5 to 4.9
• 5.0 to 5.4
• 5.5 to 5.9
• 6.0 to 6.4
• 6.5 to 6.9

Both narrative and expository passages appeal to a broad age range and are designed to help clients internalize reading strategies. The passages encompass a range of interesting topics such as emperor penguins, leap year birthdays, traveling with a passport, and the first paintballs.
