Monofilament testing is a vital tool for diabetics to help them keep abreast of any changes to their health. These reusable Folding Monofilaments from Baseline are an inexpensive, easy-to-use and portable testing instrument designed for assessing the loss of protective sensation to detect peripheral neuropathy in otherwise normal feet, which is a constant threat to diabetics. Versatile, the Monofilaments are also useful to detect changes in a patient's neurological status. In use, the higher the value of the monofilament, the stiffer and more difficult it is to bend. The forces required to bend these monofilaments are 1, 10, and 100 grams, respectively. To test, the filament is placed on the patient's skin, usually at the feet. When there is considerable loss of sensation, the patient will not be able to detect the presence of the filament at buckling. The specific locations of where the monofilament was felt and the force required to bend it is the data that's assessed to prescribe treatment, if necessary. The Folding Monofilaments are reusable, making them the ideal economic choice for diabetic patients who need to be regularly tested. Baseline Folding Monofilaments are available in 1 gram, 10 gram and 100 gram units. Please note, personal monofilament testing should only be done under the guidance of your health professional. This is a 3-Piece Set containing individual 4.08 / 1 gram, 5.07 / 10 gram and 6.10 / 100 gram monofilaments. The monofilaments allow for screening of peripheral nerve impairment and diabetic foot. To ensure the accuracy of test results, an individual other than the patient should administer the test. After use, the Monofilament is easy to clean, needing only warm, soapy water.
